let’s connect.

It’s nice to meet you.

My name is Laura, and I’m a licensed counselor (LPCC-S) serving the Cleveland area. I’m a therapist connected with Family & Personal Counseling Services, which is an association of independent mental health providers in Lakewood, Ohio. I received a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Duquesne University and am independently licensed in the state of Ohio.

I believe that therapy is an equal partnership where together we will explore your strengths, values, and hopes, and help you use your power to reach your goals. I know that feeling seen and heard by your therapist matters, so I make it my goal to create a space where you can feel safe to be authentic and open.

As a relational-cultural counselor, I believe that people aren’t islands. Our mental health may be informed by our experiences, communities, culture, and larger social issues in our world. As such, I strive towards an affirming, culturally-responsive approach to make sure you feel seen and valued for your full, holistic self.

I believe in the power of connecting with the world around us in whatever way aligns with our values. As such, I love integrating clients’ passions and interests into counseling. Some of my favorite ways are to explore therapeutic gaming, stories, and geek interests, and nature-based therapy approaches. I use a range of creative approaches depending on your interests, passion, and comfort level. I’m here to help you feel power, connection, meaning, and authenticity in your life.

In addition to counseling, I also help prepare future counselors. I have my PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision, and I am a Visiting Assistant Professor at John Carroll University. My teaching foci include skills, theories, and diagnosis. I also research counseling, such as topics around the counseling relationship and social determinants of mental health.

In my personal life— I love spending time outdoors through hiking and camping. I’m a big geek, and I always enjoy rewatching Lord of the Rings or Avatar: The Last Airbender, or reading anything by Ursula le Guin and N. K. Jemisin. Collaborative storytelling and tabletop roleplaying games are some of my favorite hobbies, and in my free time you can find me playing or DMing games of D&D. I love all forms of stories, and I’m looking forward to hearing yours.

Ready? Let’s get started.
